Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen has announced his decision to join a Saudi Arabian club in a lucrative move reportedly worth $33 million (₦52 billion) per year. In a candid statement, Osimhen explained that financial security for his family outweighs the pursuit of trophies at this stage in his career.

Osimhen, who has experienced a meteoric rise in football, reflected on his humble beginnings in Lagos. "I was born to very poor parents in Lagos. I grew up in Olusosun, an area where life was so hard that if you were able to eat breakfast, you might not even eat lunch or dinner. We were never able to have three square meals per day," he shared.

His struggles intensified with the loss of his mother when he was just nine years old, followed by his father's job loss shortly thereafter. This hardship led Osimhen and his siblings to sell water on the streets to survive. Despite these early setbacks, Osimhen's passion for football became a beacon of hope for his family.

"My family never really supported me when I started football because they thought it was just a hobby," Osimhen continued. "But I knew that football was the only hope for my family. I play so hard because football is what changed our story."

The striker’s decision to move to Saudi Arabia is a strategic one, driven by the substantial financial offer rather than the allure of additional trophies. "Trophies won't put food on my table or feed my family. I am playing football for money because my family needs it," Osimhen explained.

This move highlights Osimhen's focus on securing his family's future amidst the uncertainties of professional sports, underscoring a choice driven by necessity rather than ambition for accolades.
