Macklemore has announced the cancellation of his October 4 performance at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, citing political reasons related to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The rapper revealed his decision in an Instagram statement on August 24, expressing concern over the UAE’s alleged involvement in the Sudan conflict.

Macklemore's cancellation comes amid reports that the UAE is funding the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, a claim supported by credible evidence according to the United Nations. The UAE has denied these allegations. The conflict, which erupted in early 2023, has resulted in over 18,000 deaths and displaced millions.

In his statement, Macklemore noted that numerous supporters had urged him to take a stand by canceling the show. He stated, "The crisis in Sudan is catastrophic... Advocates, organizers, journalists, and officials repeatedly highlight the UAE’s role in funding the RSF as a major factor."

Macklemore acknowledged the potential impact of this decision on his future shows in the region but emphasized his commitment to addressing the crisis. "Until the UAE stops arming and funding the RSF, I will not perform there," he declared. He also called on fellow artists to consider using their platforms to support collective liberation.

The rapper’s stance follows his earlier show of solidarity with Palestinians through his song “Hind’s Hall,” which highlights his support for Palestinian liberation and critiques international responses to ongoing conflicts.
