Karen Nyamu, a nominated senator, has stirred controversy with her recent comments about the Gen Z-led anti-government protests. In a viral video, Nyamu labeled the young protesters as "fools," criticizing them for focusing on the behaviors of some politicians rather than addressing their own concerns, such as unemployment.

Nyamu's remarks came as a reaction to the widespread protests that had garnered significant media and presidential attention. She expressed disappointment that the youth had not used the opportunity to present their demands directly to President William Ruto.

"Gen Z wakwende. Ni mafala sana," Nyamu said in the video. "Yaani Gen Z mnaenda streets mnapata attention ya the whole country. President, the media nani wameshawatambua hats off eneyewe mko juu. Mnaitwa kwa meza, we are leaderless. President anawapatia audience X space ooh Karen Nyamu is ignorant oh Murkomen ata nikiwacha kuwa arrogant itaimprove life yako aje? focus on yourself."

She criticized the youth for not presenting concrete proposals, like job creation or affordable training, to improve their situation. Nyamu’s comments have sparked backlash from many Gen Z members, who have called for her to retract her statements.

Nyamu concluded her address by questioning the effectiveness of the protests and labeling them as ultimately fruitless. The senator's remarks have intensified the ongoing debate about the role and influence of youth activism in Kenya.
