A Coast Bus Company vehicle, carrying passengers from Nairobi to Mombasa, burst into flames near Mtito Andei within Tsavo National Park on Thursday, August 29, 2024. The incident occurred around midday, and dramatic images from the scene show the bus engulfed in flames before being reduced to ashes.

Fortunately, all passengers and the driver were safely evacuated before the fire completely destroyed the vehicle. Following the evacuation, the passengers were transferred to a rescue bus and continued their journey to Mombasa without further incident.

Initial reports suggest that the fire was caused by brake fluid leakage from the rear wheel of the bus. The Coast Bus Company has yet to release an official statement regarding the fire.

This incident comes on the heels of another serious accident involving a Coast Bus. On August 20, 2024, a different Coast Bus collided with multiple vehicles in Migaa, near Salgaa in Molo constituency, resulting in 14 fatalities and over 30 injuries. The bus, traveling from Kakamega to Mombasa, had experienced mechanical issues, which were reported to police but not acted upon, according to survivors.

As authorities continue to investigate both incidents, passengers and the public are urged to remain cautious and report any vehicle issues to ensure safety on the roads.
