In a deeply personal Instagram Live session, Big Sean opened up about his forthcoming album, *Better Me Than You*, set to release this Friday, August 30. The Detroit rapper became visibly emotional as he discussed the challenges he’s faced while working on the album, shedding light on his personal struggles with overthinking and the creative process.

During the livestream on August 26, Big Sean revealed that he has been grappling with intense pressure and self-doubt. “I am a chronic overthinker. I’m a chronic, constant worker. And I’ve been having a hard time lately, straight up. It’s not been easy… But it’s worth it,” he said, his voice breaking as he fought back tears.

Sean described the concept of *Better Me Than You* as an introspective journey, reflecting on overcoming personal adversities. “The whole concept of the album is like Better Me Than You, so when you go through your shit, it’s like you’re the one who can handle it,” he shared, emphasizing the album's focus on personal resilience.

The emotional broadcast took a poignant turn when Sean recounted a recent conversation with his mother, which helped him regain his confidence. “When me and Jhené were giving our son a bath last night, my mom called me and she was just giving me them words,” he explained. “I was like, Look, I can keep working and make it exactly how I want it and I’ll be pushing it back forever. Or I can believe in the fire-ass work that I got right now and that’s what I’ma do.”

The album’s release had been delayed from its original August 9 date, partly due to Sean contracting COVID-19. Despite the setbacks, he remains committed to his vision for the project, which he describes as encompassing various emotional layers, from pressure and clarity to happiness.

Sean also addressed recent controversies, including a leak of an unfinished version of the album, which he was quick to dismiss as a misunderstanding involving a fan rather than his former mentor, Kanye West. “Whoever started that rumor, y’all on some bullshit,” he stated firmly.

As he concluded the livestream, Big Sean unveiled the album’s cover art on Instagram, featuring a surreal depiction of his soul ascending, reflecting the album's introspective and emotional themes. Fans can look forward to new singles like “Pressure,” “Yes,” and “On Up,” as well as ongoing updates from Sean himself as he navigates the final touches on *Better Me Than You*.
