"There was never a year Jay Z was the hottest rapper in the game. He came into the scene in 1996 and we can all agree that's Tupac's year. In 1997, Biggie died. In 1998 it was Kanye West's breakout year and DMX had two N# 1 albums that year. In 1999, DMX outsold Jay Z again by a big margin. In 2000, both Nelly and Eminem went diamond. 2001 could have been his year but Ludacris came into the scene with moves and all that. 2002, Eminem again dropped 'The Eminem Show', another diamond album as well as Nelly dropping another album that sold like 7 million copies. Still Jay Z who? 2003 was obviously 50 Cent's year. He retired and came back in 2006, and at that point T.I was untop of the game. 2007 undoubtedly goes to Kanye, 'Graduation' Album year. 2008-2011 clearly goes to Lil Wayne.
