A disturbing CCTV footage has surfaced, revealing the brazen abduction of Shadrack Kiprono, widely known as Shad Khalif on social media, by undercover detectives in South B. Shad Khalif, a prominent figure in the GenZ #RejectFinanceBill2024 protests, was seized just hours after Leslie Muturi, son of Justice Muturi, was mysteriously released following a similar abduction in Kilimani.
This incident adds to a string of controversial actions by authorities targeting outspoken voices within the youth-led protest movement. Recently, two other bloggers were also detained and subsequently released after being apprehended by detectives allegedly for their involvement in the protests.
The timing of Shad Khalif's abduction, coming on the eve of planned mega protests scheduled for Tuesday, suggests a concerted effort by the government to intimidate and suppress dissenting voices. The youth activists have been vocal in their opposition to the Finance Bill 2024, demanding its outright rejection instead of mere amendments to critical sections.
"Tuesday's protests will be a litmus test," remarked one protester, highlighting the tense atmosphere surrounding the demonstrations. Concerns over police brutality have intensified following accusations that law enforcement personnel were involved in the deaths of two innocent Kenyans during previous protests.
