In a surprising move, Meek Mill has taken on Drake's iconic timestamp series with his new track "5AM in Philly," released on Friday, May 31. The song sees the South Philadelphia rapper delving deep into his emotions, using his music as a form of therapy.

Opening with the lines, “Chopper by the bed, glizzy by the door/ How you think I’m supposed to live when the only thing I see is war?”, Meek Mill addresses the harsh realities he faces. He also touches on global issues, referencing the Israel-Palestine conflict: “Yesterday was on the ‘Gram, I seen a baby on the floor/ They said they hit him with a bomb, and they killed him with his mom.”

The track is an homage to Drake’s well-loved series, which began with “9AM in Dallas” on his 2010 album *Thank Me Later*. This series includes hits like “5AM in Toronto,” “6PM in New York,” “4PM in Calabasas,” “7AM in Bridle Path,” and “8AM in Charlotte,” all known for their intense lyrical content.

Meek’s choice to engage with this series is notable, given his tumultuous history with Drake. Their infamous beef in the summer of 2015 saw Drake unwelcome in Meek's hometown of Philadelphia. However, the two have since reconciled. Last year, during a performance in Philadelphia, Drake reflected on their past conflicts and celebrated their renewed friendship.

“The last time I was in this building, that man right here, he’s been representing this city since he started in this shit,” Drake told the crowd, acknowledging Meek's influence in Philadelphia. He added, “It means the most to me that I can come back to this city and show the growth as two men, that we can come here tonight and we can represent for muthafucking Philadelphia together.”

Meek Mill’s “5AM in Philly” not only continues Drake’s tradition but also stands as a testament to his own growth and resilience, offering a raw glimpse into his world and thoughts.
