Clouds of grief and sorrow engulfed Maruta village in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, after a tragic incident where a father turned against his own children. Chege Kahuhia, a resident of the village, allegedly killed his three-year-old son and tortured his two daughters, aged two and three, in a nearby forest.

According to villagers, Kahuhia, who is believed to be mentally unstable, confessed to the heinous acts. Neighbors reported that he took his children from their home and led them to a secluded house in the forest where the gruesome events unfolded.

"The suspect took the children forcefully to the forest, tortured them, and ultimately killed his son," a resident recounted. The two daughters survived the ordeal but were subjected to severe abuse.

The tragic events have left the community in shock and mourning. The children’s mother was overwhelmed with grief as she grappled with the horrifying experience inflicted by their father.

Nyandarua County Woman Representative Faith Gitau visited the bereaved family, expressing her condolences and calling for justice. "The suspect should be taken to court and sentenced for life for committing this offense," Gitau stated, highlighting the need for accountability.

Kahuhia is currently in custody at the Njambini Police Station, where he is awaiting a psychological evaluation to determine his mental status. Following the assessment, he is expected to be arraigned and charged with murder and attempted murder.

This incident adds to a troubling pattern of domestic violence in the region. Earlier, in Kiambu County, a 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his son after a dispute with his wife. Such cases underscore the urgent need for mental health awareness and interventions to prevent further tragedies.
