The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has declared the temporary closure of Mombasa Road at Imaara Mall from Friday at 8 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m. This closure is part of an ongoing effort to enhance road infrastructure and safety measures.

In a press statement issued today, KeNHA highlighted that the closure will affect the Nairobi-bound lanes initially, with the Mombasa-bound lanes set to close next Friday, June 7, from 8 p.m. until Monday, June 10, at 6 a.m. The decision to close the road stems from the need to install culverts and reinstate affected sections, ensuring improved road conditions for commuters.

The authority has advised motorists to exercise caution when approaching the affected areas within Mombasa Road. They emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic signs and guidance from traffic police and marshals. KeNHA has also urged drivers to use the two through lanes during the closure period.

This announcement comes in the wake of recent challenges posed by heavy rains, which led to the closure of major highways across the country due to flooding. KeNHA's initiative aligns with efforts to mitigate such challenges and enhance road infrastructure resilience in the face of adverse weather conditions.

Earlier in May, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced the partial closure of critical roads within Nairobi and Kiambu counties, citing impassable conditions caused by heavy floods. The closure affected sections of Thika Superhighway and the Eastern Bypass, among others.

Despite the disruptions caused by adverse weather, KeNHA has also announced the reopening of sections of Thika Road initially closed due to flooding. This move reflects the authority's commitment to ensuring seamless connectivity and safe passage for all road users.

As KeNHA continues to implement measures to address infrastructure challenges, they remain focused on enhancing road safety and promoting economic prosperity through improved transportation networks across the country.
