A family is seeking answers after a 70-year-old woman died while being detained in a hospital for days without treatment.

Benson Khwaka, a distraught son-in-law, shared the tragic story of his mother-in-law, wife, and daughter's involvement in a road accident while leaving PCEA Kikuyu Hospital.

According to Khwaka, his family was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and while his wife and daughter received prompt treatment, his mother-in-law was left unattended for three weeks.

"We were involved in a terrible accident and were taken to PCEA Kikuyu Hospital. My wife and daughter were quickly attended to, but my mother-in-law was left without any care for three weeks," Khwaka recalled.

He further added that the hospital demanded a hefty sum of KSh 260,000 before providing treatment to his mother-in-law, which the family was unable to raise at the time.

Tragically, the elderly woman passed away while still detained in the hospital, causing immense pain and anger for her family.

Seeking answers, the family requested a postmortem report, which revealed the shocking cause of death.

According to the report, the woman died due to fat from her bone marrow slipping into her blood vessels, causing a blockage and preventing blood from flowing to her heart.

"We were devastated when we received the postmortem results. My mother-in-law's death could have been prevented if she had received prompt treatment," Khwaka lamented.

The family is now seeking justice for their loved one's untimely death and has accused the hospital's doctors of negligence.

In a statement, Khwaka demanded an explanation from PCEA Kikuyu Hospital and called for an investigation into the matter.

"We want answers. How could a 70-year-old woman be left without treatment for three weeks? This is a clear case of negligence, and we will not rest until justice is served," Khwaka stated.

Meanwhile, the hospital has not responded to calls for comment, and the family is now seeking legal representation to pursue their case.

This tragic incident has sparked concerns about the quality of healthcare in the country and has put a spotlight on the need for accountability in the medical field.

Nancy Odindo, a journalist at TUKO.co.ke, who has covered numerous stories on healthcare, expressed her condolences to the family and urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

"The loss of a loved one is never easy, and our hearts go out to the family during this difficult time. We hope that the authorities will take action and ensure that this incident is thoroughly investigated to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future," Odindo stated.

The family is now calling on the government to provide better oversight and regulation of the healthcare sector to prevent future cases of negligence and ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
