A pilot had a lucky escape after his light aircraft crashed into a tree at a housing estate in Anglesey, North Wales.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon at the Cae Bach Aur estate near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. The plane, a single-engine Piper PA-28 Cherokee, was flying from Caernarfon Airport when it came down in the garden of a property.

The pilot, who was the only person on board, was able to get out of the wreckage and was talking to the emergency services. He appeared to be unharmed, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

No one on the ground was injured, and no damage was caused to any buildings. The cause of the crash is not yet known, but the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been informed and will conduct an inquiry.

A spokesperson for the North Wales Police said: "We were called at 2.15pm to reports of a light aircraft having crashed into a tree at the Cae Bach Aur estate. Officers attended the scene along with the fire and ambulance services. The pilot was taken to hospital for a check-up, but no serious injuries were reported. The area was cordoned off and the relevant authorities were notified."
