A man has died after his crop duster plane crashed into a remote field near Bourke, New South Wales, on Saturday morning.
The pilot, who has not been named, was the only person on board the single-engine aircraft when it ploughed into the ground at around 9AM.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash by a witness who saw smoke rising from the site, about 50 kilometres north of Bourke.
Police, paramedics, and fire crews attended the scene, but the man could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the site.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, but authorities said the plane was spraying crops before it went down.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has launched an investigation into the incident and will examine the wreckage and interview witnesses.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
