Azimio la Umoja spokesperson and lawyer Makau Mutua has given insights into how alleged corruption can be stopped in the judiciary.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Mutua said it will require overhauling the entire system, from the judges to the clerks, to ensure accountability and transparency.

He said this can only be successful if alleged corrupt officials are dismissed from the service and face legal consequences for their actions.

"Corruption in the judiciary is a cancer that erodes public trust and undermines the rule of law. It must be rooted out and eliminated without mercy. We need a complete overhaul of the system, not cosmetic changes. Anyone who is found to be involved in corruption should be sacked and prosecuted," Mutua said.

Mutua added that Azimio la Umoja, a political movement led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is committed to fighting corruption in all sectors of the society, including the judiciary.

He said the movement will support the efforts of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate and prosecute cases of corruption in the judiciary.

He also urged the public to report any instances of corruption they encounter in the courts and cooperate with the authorities.

"We appeal to the public to be vigilant and report any cases of corruption they witness or experience in the judiciary. We also ask them to cooperate with the JSC and the EACC in their investigations. Together, we can end corruption and restore the dignity and integrity of the judiciary," Mutua said.
