Bungoma County has taken a bold step to ensure that all its students have access to quality education, regardless of their financial status. The County Assembly has allocated Sh250 million to the County Scholarship Fund, which will benefit 540 bright but needy students from across the county.
The fund will cover the tuition fees and other expenses for the students who have qualified to join secondary schools, colleges, and universities. The beneficiaries were selected through a rigorous and transparent process, based on their academic performance and economic background.
Governor Kenneth Lusaka lauded the initiative, saying that it was a demonstration of the county’s commitment to education as a key driver of development. He also praised the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for their role in approving the budget for the fund, which he said was a historic achievement.
“I want to thank the MCAs for their support and cooperation in ensuring that this fund becomes a reality. This is the first time in the history of this county that we have such a huge amount dedicated to education. This is a clear indication that we value our children and we want to give them the best opportunities in life,” he said.
He also urged the parents and guardians of the beneficiaries to play their part in ensuring that their children excel in their studies. He advised them to monitor their progress, provide moral support, and discourage them from engaging in vices that could ruin their future.
“I appeal to the parents and guardians to be actively involved in the education of their children. Do not leave them alone or neglect them. Encourage them, motivate them, and guide them. Help them to achieve their dreams and aspirations. Do not let them fall into bad company or habits that could destroy their lives,” he said.
He also warned the beneficiaries against misusing the opportunity, saying that they had a responsibility to work hard and make the county proud. He challenged them to aim high and pursue excellence in their chosen fields of study.
“You have been given a golden chance to further your education. Do not take it for granted or waste it. Use it wisely and diligently. Study hard and smart. Be disciplined and focused. Be innovative and creative. Be the best that you can be. You are the future leaders of this county and this country. Make us proud,” he said.
The governor also assured the public that the county government would continue to invest in education and other sectors that would improve the lives of the residents. He said that his administration was committed to delivering on its promises and fulfilling its mandate.
“We are determined to make Bungoma County a model of development and prosperity. We are working tirelessly to implement our vision and agenda for this county. We are not only investing in education, but also in health, agriculture, infrastructure, trade, tourism, and other sectors. We are leaving no stone unturned in our quest to transform this county and make it a better place for everyone,” he said.
