The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp took to Instagram on Tuesday to share some devastating news about her skin cancer diagnosis. The 40-year-old reality star revealed that her immunotherapy treatment for melanoma has failed and that she will need to undergo further excision surgery to remove the cancerous cells.
Mellencamp posted a video of herself crying as she explained her situation to her followers. She said that she had been undergoing immunotherapy injections for the past six months, hoping that they would boost her immune system and fight off the cancer. However, she said that her latest biopsy results showed that the treatment was not working and that the cancer had spread to other areas of her skin.
"I'm really bummed," Mellencamp said in the video. "I was hoping that this would be the end of it, but it's not. I have to go back in and they have to cut more. And I'm just feeling sorry for myself and I don't want to be."
Mellencamp said that she was sharing her story to raise awareness about skin cancer and to encourage people to get checked regularly. She also thanked her fans for their support and prayers, and said that she was trying to stay positive and hopeful.
"I know that I'm lucky that they caught it early, and I know that I'm going to be OK," she said. "But it's just hard. It's hard to go through this, and it's hard to have to tell your kids, and it's hard to have to put your life on hold for something that you wish would just go away."
Mellencamp first revealed her skin cancer diagnosis in September, after she noticed a suspicious mole on her back. She said that she had ignored the mole for years, thinking that it was nothing serious. She urged her fans to learn from her mistake and to pay attention to any changes on their skin.
"Please, no matter how busy you are, make your health a priority and make your appointments," she wrote on Instagram at the time. "I am so grateful to @dr.marmur and her team for catching this early and helping me along the way."
Mellencamp is the daughter of rock legend John Mellencamp and the mother of three children: Slate, 8, Cruz, 6, and Dove, 1. She starred on RHOBH for three seasons, from 2017 to 2020, and is also a fitness coach and entrepreneur. She has been married to security company CEO Edwin Arroyave since 2011.
